Animal Husbandry Days Exhibition and Fair in Hodmezovasarhely 2012

This year the Animal Husbandry Days are a bit later than usual. It is usually held at the end of April, around the day of St George but this year it is a bit later, between 11th and 13th May.
All the seven breeding sectors of animal husbandry are presented in Hodmezovasarhely - horse, cattle, pig, sheep ,goat, poultry and fish. Through the last 19 years it became one of the most important events in agriculture and animal husbandry. The exhibition is a place where representatives of related businesses and companies can present themselves to professionals who are interested in what they can offer but it is also a place where young and old can find something to do as a family programme.

There are various programmes for the whole family from Friday to Sunday although Friday is more for the professionals. On Saturday and Sunday you can see a "spectacular" pig killing, Saturday at 10:30, Sunday at 9:30 and on both days there are different Gidran shows during the days. On Saturday there is a greyhound racing at 10:00. You can visit the fair where you can buy different traditional handmade products and children can try some games too. There are lots of places where you can have lunch or just a snack and a drink but you can also bring your own food and have a picnic on the grass.

Tickets are 1000 Huf for adults, it is free for children under 18. Parking ticket is also 1000 Huf next to the exhibition, parking men will show you the place where to go. If you stay in Hodmezovasarhely and would not like to drive to the exhibition you can get there by bus from Andrassy street or a diesel train from the train station. Buses go every hour from 9:00 until 18:00, trains also go every hour between 8:30 and 17:30.

Winter photos from Hodmezovasarhely

It is unusually cold in Hodmezovasarhely. The last time people in Hodmezovasarhely experienced such cold was in 1987 and since then there was not so much snow either. It has been snowing from three days now, local schools are closed for two days and getting from one place to another has got quite difficult.

The temperature is around -10 Celsius (14 F) during the day and it is around -20 C (-4 F) at night. I would like to illustrate this weather in Hodmezovasarheyl with some photos.

It is not easy for animals either.
Waiting for birds

Usually busy places are not so busy at the moment in Hodmezovasarhely although the most important roads are cleaned it is still very difficult to drive.
Hodmezovasarhely Heroes' square, roundabout

Everything is covered in thick snow even the bus stops.

The snow is about 50 centimetres thick you cannot tell where the pavement starts and where the road is.

Although it is very cold and makes life unusually hard, it is beautiful. It's a shame there is no mountain outside Hodmezovasarhely.

Beautiful main square covered in snow. Not easy to get from one end of the square to the other but nice to look at.

Winter is especially hard this February in Middle Europe with lots of minuses.
Lots of snow in Hodmezovasarhely

As you can see it is getting colder and colder as the night approaches.

Christmas greetings from Hodmezovasarhely

Hodmezovasarhely is getting into the spirit of the season.
The streets in the centre and Kossuth square are lit with hundreds of lights. It can be enjoyed by the customers at the Christmas fair and the lots of children and adults who enjoy the ice rink in front of the Town Hall, which is free to use!

Hodmezovasarhely at night

There're only two days until Christmas and with these Hungarian folk songs we would like to wish you a very happy Christmas with a very local greeting from five students of Liszt Ferenc Primary school in Hodmezovasarhely. Hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

Hodmezovasarhely – Annual Autumn Exhibition

Hodmezovasarhely Alfoldi Gallery

Last Sunday was the opening of the 58th Annual Autumn Exhibition in Hodmezovasarhely as the main attraction of Autumn Weeks of Hodmezovasarhely.
It is such a unique exhibition in Hungary as it is the only one that has been organised since 1954. You can see the works of art of contemporary atrists who are connected to Hodmezovasarhely or the previous exhibitions in a way.
The artists are invited to send their pieces of art to the exhibition and only the carefully selected paintings, sculptures and other pieces can be seen by the public.
Every year one artist gets the Tornyai plaquette, a prize named after the famous painter, Janos Tornyai, to recognise their outstanding work and talent but an artist can get this acknowledgement only once in their lifetime.
This year Peter Kovacs, graphic artist got the plaquette. Since the second exhibition there has been a catalogue of the pieces which you can buy int he museum.

The exhibition can be seen in Alfoldi Gallery in Kossuth square, Hodmezovasarhely, next to the Town Hall. It is open every day except Monday between 8th October and 4th December. Opening hours  10.00 a.m. – 18.00 p.m.
